In the player below you will find examples of my playing in various styles.
Aspire was a submission to a competition of the same name at the Tate Modern. The brief was to interpret the word 'Aspire'. I chose to write something to convey emotions connected with moments in which I've had absolute motivation to achieve, such as getting into Trinity College, doing well in my A Levels to attend University, and being able to express my opinion musically for the first time in my life.
Fascino Mesculato is Italian for 'mixed emotion'. The piece was not composed with such a title in mind, but after completing it I saw that it seemed to express feelings which I was "bottling up." The structure is simple and includes a recapitulation used to separate three different emotional ideas. The delicacy of the playing is important to articulate the contrasting emotional ideas.
Deep Horizon originated as a string quartet. After recording the harp and experimentally reversing it, however, I decided to use the technique for the entire piece. This required considerable thought to arrange as the original piece builds to a climactic moment, but the challenge was fascinating.
